Good food and good company
Nov. 27th, 2003 09:26 pmI've just had a wonderful day and two fine meals, the first with family and the second with friends. After being woken by a phone call from my brother - I'd intended to be up an hour earlier, but as I told him groggily, it was "complicated" - I went with him over to the house of my other brother and his wife, who were hosting this year. I brought salad, sodas, and dessert (pumpkin pie, apple pie, and ice cream - not that we had much room for any of it by the end). Also on the table was turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, lasagna, olives, sauteed mushrooms, and dinner rolls. Lots of good food and plenty of leftovers.
When that was winding down and most of us were laying about in a stupor, around 6, my mother took me home and then swung back by to take me over to the home of
biomekanic and
sbloss, where I introduced her to them,
naudiz,
pjack and
indiecowboy as well. There were many fine vegetable dishes on the table (including a yam pie that I have to give props to, despite yams not really being my thing) and more turkey, but I just nibbled and shared the Martinelli's cider I'd brought. They sent me home with more leftovers. I figure I'll be eating well for the next two full days, at least.
And finally, on the way home, I gave my last two dollars to a homeless guy named Steve. Yeah... it was a good day.
