I'd heard that they didn't plan on being canceled. So that the ending was a cliffhanger. I'm not sure why they didn't end the show just a few moments earlier. They could have easily edited that.

Maybe they feel that there's still hope for a continuation.

My thinking ran along similar lines. Perhaps they didn't edit the end because they hope for a continuation of some sort. (Farscape movie, perhaps?) You're right, it would have been very easy to edit.

Personally, I quite liked the last episode. Farscape has always had the characters riding on the very edge of disaster. In the final episode, they wrapped up a major plot point, and stayed true to the show's theme: barely controlled chaos. The cliffhanger ending was annoying, but somehow appropriate. I remember thinking to myself, "Yeah, that's just about their luck." ;)
