This just occurred to me today.

I'm comfortable with computers. Even when I don't know exactly what I'm doing, I'm confident enough to start poking around and making educated guesses. I have some grasp of how things work together. All of this is by contrast to the inexperienced computer user who only knows how to perform certain tasks by rote, doesn't understand the underlying structure, is worried that if they go out of bounds they'll break something, and tends to freeze or flail when faced with the unfamiliar.

Yet that's exactly where I am when it comes to social skills. Same mindset, same responses. Funny, huh?
