Tonight I finally learned/looked up the answer to a question that's tickled the back of my head for years: why was the Apollo lunar module ascent stage slightly asymmetrical, with one lobe sticking further out?

Answer: the contents of one tank (oxidizer) were heavier than the other (fuel), so to make it balance, they had to position the latter further from the center-of-gravity. Duh.
