Except that D&D explicitly includes the possibility of divine intervention - that is, a higher power (all the way up to the DM) giving you a swat on the back of the head and telling you to Stop That.
Any world in which killer demons come out of mirrors when you speak a phrase has similar implied possibilities.
And the DM has no say in what characters do IN GAME. You set up the possibility, I have every right as a player to have a character test that possibility. You can only "swat me" if I'm playing my character poorly.
That is, a GM has the responsibility to deal with the consequences of his world. You have Mirrors of Opposition, you'd damn well better have some idea of what happens if you set up a Hall Of Mirrors Of Opposition... or be ready to wing it when an enterprising PC decides to find out.
I do not accept any implied covenant between GM and player which takes away my right to tell the latter to stop playing silly buggers (particularly if their wanking is wasting not only my time, but that of other players).
In games I run, you will generally have more pressing and relevant concerns than dicking around performing esoteric physics experiments with magic items.
