And the rains came
Sep. 7th, 2010 05:51 pmToday I gambled and lost. My bet was that I could go the day without needing a jacket (and risking that I'd have to wear it home again on a warm and muggy afternoon). It seemed like a good bet; wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that temperatures regularly topped 80 and even 90, and the skies were not cloudy all day?
But at noon, I found out the dice had come up against me; the morning clouds had not burned off this time, but had decided to dump their contents all over downtown. Lunch itself was the first casualty. Still, I reminded myself, I could afford to miss a meal - frankly, I could probably stand to miss about twenty of them, if I only had the discipline.
Then my hopes that it might rain itself out in time for me to go home were cruelly dashed. It was, if anything, raining a little harder at 5:00. There was nothing for it - I was going to get wet, nay, soaked. And so I was.
But now I am home, and warm and dry, and wolfing down sandwich fixings (mmm, sandvich nom nom nom). And tomorrow? Tomorrow, I will wear my jacket.
