Got woken up last night by the sensation of a pepper (or acid drop, or wayward ant, I dunno; it 'tasted' like a stray pepper, possibly from yesterday's lunch) burning away at my throat. Got up, drank water, nearly vomited. Was able to keep it together, though ... breathe carefully, etc. until the sensation subsided a bit.

The result of this, however, was to turn my (marginal) six hours of sleep into two and three, with a traumatic break in the middle. So I was in bad shape this morning. My throat was still scratchy and I felt tired and awful. Would have called in sick if it were practical, but it's not, not really - not with monthly billing and other things needing to be done.

I did call in, and what I ended up doing was showing up a half hour late and doing everything but certain tasks - looking at lots of numbers, basically - that I knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate on. I worked for the other 3.5 hours, helped with phones during lunch, got stuff done (including the "pre-billing" entry of new clients and payments). Then I came home and went back to bed for another two hours - I don't want to sleep straight through and be up all night, as that would throw my schedule into total chaos.

Here's hoping it was just one of those random one-time things.

I hope you are feeling better. That is a rude awakening. You are the coolest, though. I would love to have an employee like you. You're too responsible to others to let them down but you call in and warn them you will be functioning on limited resources, do what you can and are quite the trooper about it. My respect for you is great.

You speak too kindly of me; I am embarrassed.

My dear, you are truly one of my knights in shining armour. I would not speak falsely. I am honoured to be your friend. *warm smile and a low bow*

it was prolly a piss-ant. there's been a handful of them running around this quad set for about a week n half. robyn also inadvertantly brought some in with him on sunday when he got off of working out at the coast for dunefest. if it was i aplologize for the ant.

Equally (or more) likely to have been a lingering pepper from my spicy lunch that day. And my empty soda cans attract plenty of ants, though only to that shelf, so blame not Robyn.

I used to have the same problem, on a semi-frequent basis (a few times a month). I found that when I put a folded up comforter (about 3 layers thick) under the 'head' end of the bed to give me a slight angle to sleep on, it went away. Worth a shot.
