A week of ups and downs
Aug. 24th, 2002 05:06 pmMy boss is off to Hawaii for vacation with his girlfriend (who has the most wonderful Brit accent - I'm so envious), so next week is just monthly billing and misc chores. We can both use the rest after this last week; funny how it's almost more stressful to take a vacation, what with the preparing beforehand and the catching up when you get back, than it would be to just work the whole time straight.
Speaking of "UPS", one of the downs is that my new old computer isn't here yet; UPS is scheduled to deliver it on Tuesday, according to their ground tracking. The eBay seller is getting only a "prompt" shipping from me, not "fast". In the meantime, though, I've had MS Combat Flight Sim 2 (Pacific Theater) to keep me busy. After wrestling with the Wildcat for most of this campaign, the Corsair and Hellcat seem almost too easy - at last, power to spare! On the other hand, the AA fire in these last missions has suddenly gotten much worse. The sharp increase of the difficulty has been enough to break the game's hold on me for now, and I'm presently wondering what to play next.
I'm also a little bummed that a game I've been anticipating for a while - a cute little thing called Moonbase Commander - isn't out yet. This after I've made no less than three trips to the local Software Etc on the hope or expectation that it would be in. I suppose I needed the exercise.
Finally, I had to schlep my father down to the clinic this Thursday to get his blood drawn, as I was reminded that morning that he had an appointment to see the doctor this next Monday. This on top of the usual getting his meds, waking him up to take them, etc.
Now for the positives: I've been enjoying my new computer, eating well, doing a lot of bike-riding (even if for futile ends), and having some very interesting discussions on-line. Also talking with my mother for a while this week on politics and other subjects, and doing some much-needed tidying of the living room. And my boss thanked me for my help in getting everything done and squared away so he could leave, despite some of the last-minute stuff dropped on us. Being productive is good.
