Equality of the sexes
Sep. 3rd, 2002 01:25 pmI read today that wild bachelorette parties, like binge-drinking among college-age girls, are on the rise. It makes me sad, really, that the new face of feminism seems to be about proving that women can be as stupid, drunk, and bawdy as men. (I may have said so in the past; if so, please forgive my continued rant on the subject.) Rather than the "gentler sex" elevating their crude fellows, we get the gender-relations equivalent of Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron."
And call me girly if you like, but if I were getting married, I'd rather have something of the "shower" vein; perhaps "vigil" is a better way to put it. Something solemn and reflective, to match the seriousness of the commitment.
But then, maybe it's simply that Bacchanalian debauchery is the wrong kind of wild celebration for my tribe. Now, an all-night LAN party...
