I read today that wild bachelorette parties, like binge-drinking among college-age girls, are on the rise. It makes me sad, really, that the new face of feminism seems to be about proving that women can be as stupid, drunk, and bawdy as men. (I may have said so in the past; if so, please forgive my continued rant on the subject.) Rather than the "gentler sex" elevating their crude fellows, we get the gender-relations equivalent of Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron."

And call me girly if you like, but if I were getting married, I'd rather have something of the "shower" vein; perhaps "vigil" is a better way to put it. Something solemn and reflective, to match the seriousness of the commitment.

But then, maybe it's simply that Bacchanalian debauchery is the wrong kind of wild celebration for my tribe. Now, an all-night LAN party...

Cheer up; it's actually worse. It's not about equality now; it's about proving that women are better than men at everything, including idiotic dissipation. And the really sad part is, it's been not-very-subtly instigated by men trying to make a buck (and succeeding wildly) by first creating this "wild girls" cultural phenomenon, then making and selling videos about it. These chicks think they're striking a blow for La Revolución Feminista when really they're just sucking down quarts of beer, ripping off their shirts and gyrating their mammaries for the gratification of VCR-equipped fratboys around the country.
