More computer stuff
Jun. 13th, 2006 01:50 pmYeah, I know. But it's what I'm doing right now, so I'm going to write about it.
After twelve-plus hours of uploading to my brother's external HD via USB (and perhaps two of downloading via USB2), all files are finally on my new machine. Now I'm reinstalling stuff, which is equal parts satisfaction and frustration.
IE's hold over me was finally broken when this particular install absolutely insisted on making msn.com my homepage, despite repeated attempts to change it (including registry diving and a few boots into safe mode). Well, screw that. I've downloaded Firefox and am starting to enjoy tabbed browsing, though the download manager takes a little getting used to.
Tonight I'll be installing Norton System Works and McAfee Anti-Virus, which have worked for me in the past. ZoneAlarm is already in place, and after a little wrangling, I got the themes crack and Object Desktop working last night.
For image viewing, I was going to move up to ACDsee 7 with the new machine, but I just couldn't get used to the interface changes, so I've dropped back to version 5. I'll try the latest Paint Shop Pro tonight, but may end up doing the same with it.
I need to stop anthromorphosizing and guilting about selling/disposing of the old computer. You know it's bad when I have mental images of leaving "her" in an alley in a cardboard box, as anime tells us the Japanese do. I especially should not be guilting about something that I had to wrestle with this morning just to make it recognize the mouse and keyboard.
And now to work. So much work. More about that later.
