I caught the office cold two days ago. Oh boy did I catch it. I felt it coming on, late Monday, and made sure to go to bed at a reasonable hour, as it might be the last good sleep I got for a while. (Prophetic.)
Symptoms were in full force yesterday, but mostly just a runny nose; I didn't feel that bad, and my boss has been holding up like a trouper, so I went in and put in a solid day's work. (Actually a little light, since his output has been reduced by his illness, but I got it all done.) Went to the store on the way home and picked up a gallon of orange juice, several cans of chicken soup, yogurt for the throat, and a whole chicken (just for the sake of overkill). I already had leftover cold meds from last time, so I didn't bother with those.
So, last night I tried going to bed at a good time. Operative word is "tried." My stuffed-up head and runny nose, even with meds, contrived to wake me every half hour or so. By 5 a.m., I was a pitiable figure; by 10, I was in no condition to go in to work today. So I called in, then went back to the things I'd found to be least uncomfortable. In this way I was finally able to get some decent sleep.
At 3, I finally felt like I could face the world again, and called back to see if there was anything that I was REALLY needed for today. My boss said there wasn't and encouraged me to drink plenty of fluids, etc. (Not a problem.)
We'll see if I'm up for tea tomorrow.
