A grand day out
Feb. 16th, 2007 05:56 pmWent to the coast today with
sbloss (it was her idea, and her driving),
naudiz and
kireishojo (yeah, just us girls). For all that I've lived a couple of hours from the coast for most of my life, I've rarely gone. I was worried about the weather yesterday, but it mostly cooperated today - just grey and misty, sometimes with drizzle.
We started the day off with a pancake breakfast at Ye Olde Pancake House on West 11th. We saw the sea lions in their cave, then went to Florence and hit a candy shoppe (where I got some lemon drops and seafoam for later; there was also fudge and caramel corn purchased) and a coffee shop (where I had an Italian soda and the others indulged their bean and leaf addictions.) A little more walking and then we turned around and went to Mo's for supper. I had the house bouilliabase, which had actual crab claws sticking out of it when it arrived, and finished off the last little bit of sbloss' pasta alfredo with shrimp. Then it was time to head home, with naudiz and I brainstorming about her sci-fi novel setting while kireishojo sensibly napped.
I'm tired, as are my feet, but content and full of delicious seafood. And I have a couple of souvenirs - a tiger cowrie (very pretty) and a polished bit of hematite in the form of a thick disk, still faintly magnetized from the big bar magnet they had in the chest (causing the stones to form "ropes" which clung together even when pulled from the magnet). It was nice to get out of the house, and to be able to just pick up and go on a weekday. I guess this being out of work thing has its compensations.
I think I'm going to have to get a digital camera, however. The real world unfortunately does not allow me to take screenshots whenever I like.
