Treating myself / old haunts
Jun. 6th, 2007 04:24 pmThe search for work continues. Today I dropped off an application for a front-desk position with the Oregon Research Institute, by Track Town, and tonight I'm working on an application for another library job so that I can drop it off on the way to tea tomorrow.
While I was out on Franklin Boulevard, I decided to check out the Market of Choice a few blocks down. The cold deli did not have some items I've seen at other locations, but I got many tasty things: two stromboli, some sparkling grape juice, a pint of locally-grown strawberries (as expensive as the organic out-of-state quart, but worth it), and some things for tea tomorrow (since I was thinking today about how I haven't brought anything lately): gluten-free peach scones, which I hope biomekanic likes, and Kettle chips.
From there, I decided to take the back way home, cutting across campus and seeing how much it has changed. The Knight Law Center has consumed nearly all of the "trailer park" of temporary classrooms of which I am now, in nostalgia, perversely fond; however, there are still one or two on the outskirts, still in use, which warms my heart.
Continuing down Agate, I found myself at the intersection with 19th - and yes, Prince Pucklers is still there. I went and got a mint Oreo shake, as I often did when they had a store in downtown Eugene and Bob and I were still up in the big cube of 44 West (before the landlord/developer drove everyone out). Then I climbed College Hill on my bike and coasted down the west side.
And there, of course, was South - South Eugene High School - with its auditorium lightboard announcing that graduation is this Saturday at the Hult Center. The class of 2007, twenty years after my own. Kids who weren't born yet when I went through it. That'll definitely be on my mind this weekend.
But right now, I am home with a full tummy and something accomplished. I am content.
