A. Because if he had them take the shorter route from the stomach, out through the front/belly, everyone would immediately realize he's just ripping off Alien within his usual mis en scene of fictionalized Maine. It's the only "new" element in an otherwise mostly recycled story, by virtue of being stolen from someone else rather than from his own previous works (particularly It).
