Thought of the day:

In a universe where temporal loops and predestination paradoxes are known to exist, the Guardian of Forever's cryptic statement actually makes a fair amount of sense. Perhaps some far future culture has a need to set up an outpost at the other end of time, for whatever reason, and builds the Guardian with knowledge gained, at least in part, from studying the present one; or perhaps they simply transplant it, whole and entire, into the past.

I always figured it was typical ur-artifact bombast, not to be taken entirely literally. Like "I am Vector Sigma. Before Cybertron was, I was." Those super-powerful sapient artifacts, you know. After a while they get to believing their own press.
