More sci-fi thoughts:

It seems to me that "Blink" is probably scarier in England, where you can't swing a cricket bat without hitting a Weeping Angel bit of old statuary. Not so much on this side of the pond. (Unless you live near a cemetery, maybe. Or in Gotham City.)

You were unimpressed? Man, [livejournal.com profile] karjack and I were seriously impressed.

But then, we watched it just days after it was released. We didn't have months and months of people telling us how awesome it was and how we just had to see it. Probably made a big difference.

Well, the ending is all "don't blink, or the statues will get you!" And I look around and think, "What statues?"

And creepy though they are, they don't even kill people, merely displace them, which makes them rather weak as Who villains go. I mean, it would suck to have to live in the 40s, but I think I could manage, especially once I patent velcro. The main thing would be to leave messages for friends and family so they aren't left wondering forever about my disappearance.

EDIT: Looks like I have to amend that. I've been running the scenario in my mind (as I'm wont to do) for much of the morning, and I finally got to the point of thinking about actually writing those letters, to loved ones I could guess I wouldn't live to see again, never see a niece grow up... and the weight of that imagined loss hit me so hard that I had to get up from my desk and go into the bathroom for a quick cry. So, maybe not so "weak" after all.

I thought it was visually lovely and evocative, but I also grew up back east where we had angels, Madonnas, and st. Francis statues all over the place.

again, I think it's a New World vs. Old World thing. the West is notably lacking in gratuitous statuary.
