As alluded to in an earlier post, it's sometimes hard for me not to feel bitter towards "the youth" - ignorant, illiterate, ill-behaved and short-sighted as they always are by adult standards - for pushing me out of hobbies and activities I otherwise still enjoy and have no desire to give up just yet. I was here first, damnit.

Mostly video and computer games, especially the multi-player kind where I have to interact with them and I am increasingly a minority to their majority, moving further out on the bell curve. The industry that began with us may be growing up, but the "sweet spot" isn't moving to keep pace - it's staying with the young males, with the optimum balance of money, time, and competitiveness. Also the RPG hobby, and even the tone of many online discussion groups... I assume that it was always this immature and hostile, and I'm just now noticing it as I move out of the bracket.

I gather I'm supposed to put aside the electronic entertainment that I watched grow up with me and do something respectable like spend my Sundays watching sports, or go join the old men at the sand table recounting Napoleonic glories. But I'm simply not interested.

I think they expect you to be on to console games or career/kids. I

I agree with gwyd. And yes, it has always been that immature and hostile. There's a reason I've been so picky about what I play, when, and with whom. :P
