I've just been given some old typewriter supplies - IBM Selectric ribbons/cartridges, etc - still in their packaging, and rather than just throwing them away, I'd like to get them into the hands of those who can make good use of them. What are my best options? Craigslist, freecycle... anyone else?

EDIT: Delivered to UO Geog, thank you [livejournal.com profile] pjack.

I've noticed that the UO Geography office still uses an old electric typewriter. I'll ask if they use an IBM Selectric, and could use any supplies. If they don't, there might be other places around the UO that still use electric typewriters.

Check and see if your local library or school still has one of those. If so, they'll be grateful for the supplies.

OK, the office wants it only if it's correctable cartridges. If they're not, then I recommend checking around schools and libraries.

I believe that they are! I'll verify tomorrow and look them up in the directory.

Any of the really old non-cartridge ribbon spools (transfer film or inked fabric) for the original Selectric Model 71? I've actually got one of those, and it's always good to stockpile the media (especially the transfer film ribbons, use one of those up and it's done forever). :)

Afraid not, though I do believe I know what you're speaking of.
