So my middle brother is moving to Portland to follow his job. (That's bad, sorta. I'll miss being able to say that all of my family lives here in town, but he's not moving that far away.)
He called me today to tell me and to offer me an air conditioner that he's not going to need anymore. (That's good, since it gets very hot in my small apartment/quad sometimes, and this coming week is supposed to be particularly so.)

Except... I've now spent most of the evening obsessing about all the things that could go wrong. Having to move stuff out of the way of the window to put it in and make it work. Getting it to stay in the window and not fall out onto the bushes (or the alley) one floor below (and smash into a million pieces). Wondering if trying to plug it in will instantly set off the circuit breaker (like when I tried having a microwave in my room), because the wiring here is so crappy. And on, and on...

I'd almost rather just sweat through the next month not to have to deal with all these variables and fears.

EDIT for update, 7/28: well, I was right about no external bracing/modifications being allowed. Of greater concern, however, is the power issue - it's a 15 amp circuit, max. My brothers are going to see what can be done; if this unit is unsuitable, we might get a new one.

Last night (7/27) was no fun. Mid 80s in my room when I finally went to bed.

I hope it's a small, light one. I got a medium-sized one, and it was way too heavy to lift by myself. Fortunately, our maintenance guys were really helpful in getting it installed.

Be not afraid! Or, be afraid, but get it installed anyway. Future-you will be very grateful.
