Thought for the day
Dec. 20th, 2002 05:39 pmEverQuest's contributions to our society, in no particular order:
(additions to this list are welcome)
- Established the first truly viable online currency (the "plat") complete with an exchange rate pegged to the dollar, despite official denials and attempts to suppress it.
- Created a class of workers who are able to earn a living solely through the production and sale of virtual goods (see above).
- Enabled a much larger segment of the population to experience the phenomenon of flunking out of college due to playing MUD.
- Caused a significant uptick in the divorce rate in certain demographics.
- Reaffirmed the right of the service provider to ban your ass for any reason whatsoever.
- Allowed an entire barely-literate generation to believe that trash talk, camping spawns, and begging incessantly for "buffs" and "lewts" constitutes role-playing.
