The wonder is that he dances at all
Feb. 11th, 2010 10:45 amSomeone on another board brought up the old "Corwin never says he's not a talking bear" thing from the Amber list (summarized in a little more detail in post #8 here) and... I was inspired.
"Corwin, you are a talking bear," he said.
I considered this. It was certainly possible. But I had to wonder, as I always did when dealing with family, what he had to gain by saying so.
"And what if I am?" I asked.
"Don't you see? It changes everything!" he said, pounding his fist on the arm of the chair just as he used to when we were boys together. Or cubs, perhaps.
"I don't see how," I replied. "I'd still be the same ruthless, cynical, melancholy bastard. Just add fur, claws, and a bit more ill temper."
"Corwin, you are a talking bear," he said.
