Hero-us Interruptus

Having been convinced to join those already playing City of Heroes, I rode over to the local Software Etc/Gamestop this afternoon, gift card (from my birthday some months ago) in hand, or rather in wallet. But when I got there, I found no CoH; only pre-paid subscription cards, mocking me in their boxes. "We might get some more in at the end of the week," I was told. "Maybe."

I was almost frustrated enough to go buy it someplace else, today... and I might have, if I'd actually had any money left in my account at this point.

The ride back was no fun either: a thousand little annoyances and delays. About the best thing I can say is that I was not run over. (I should probably take the bike in tomorrow to have the rear spokes checked and tightened, though.) And of course I returned too late to deposit my paycheck this afternoon, so I'll have to do that tomorrow as well.

I must either be burning off a lot of bad karma today, or banking a lot of good.

No game that requires subscription is good. All of them are evil. If it's "pay to play" it's just a disguise for Evil Addictive Drug-like Thing. Play nice tabletop RPGs. You just pay once for a lifetime of superhero entertainment.

1. Not in the mood right now, so don't push me.

2. I'm already playing one MMOG, though it's rather unconventional ( http://www.puzzlepirates.com/ ) and I got the beta special, $50 for two years, so I'm not paying monthly. But still, the initial hurdle has been taken.

3. I'm already full-up on my tabletop RPG action, every weekend, and my console RPG action for that matter; I'm taking advantage of the week's delay to finish the Final Fantasy (I) remake.

4. I haven't done any actual superhero RP since college Champions, over ten years ago.

5. All the cool kids are doing it.
