This post is mostly for the benefit of [livejournal.com profile] twoflower; once it's proofread, I'll be adding it to his thread on the Virtue board.

EDIT: And it's posted. Go have a look.

It's good stuff, but I'd suggest continuing it a bit. Each of the writeups so far have involved some sort of conflict or failing brought on by their personality quirks -- Haley's shyness and abuse, Elisa's selective righteousness, Cold Sore's immaturity. Indigo mentions that MJ's ethics are too stringent for the work she's going to face. How about an example of that? A situation where her personality actually makes a situation worse, or calls her to question herself.

I've got more writeups planned like that -- Dusty pondering the meaning of the Iraq war and her role in it, Carrie dealing with her research grant happy sponsor doctor. I think the only pure comedy one is the Drone's but his is gonna be "Uh.. THIS guy is a hero..?".

Hm. Difficult, without a change in PoV ... but I think I have an idea.
Thanks, I'd missed that.

Also, personally, I'm not sure there'd BE an Iraq war in this timeline - the US and many other nations kind of have their hands full with the Rikti aftermath - but your character, your call. :)

Got Dusty's post up. It's possible there wouldn't be, but given how all the other world events had paralells in COH timelines -- the cold war, vietnam, etc -- it's only fitting that this did too. Marvel Comics did a great 9/11 tribute issue, for isntance, where in their chronology the WTC event happened and there were heroes helping clean up the wreckage, including some villains like Magneto who were sympathetic. There's great potential for comics-vs-reality moments like that out there.

I like the way she approaches it, too.

Working on an addition to mine now, a coda of sorts.

I think..

The story fits the personality quirk mentioned - The 'dealing with stuff far below what you need to do' is good.

I like the fact that it's a POV of a person, not of the hero herself. That's kinda cool too.

I'd suggest finding a way to bring out the 'don't you have more important' thing, but I'm not sure what it would be.. Change the locale? Atlas? Galaxy? KR?

Maybe changing the phrase she says at the end?

(I keep looking for something, and 'Doing what needs to be done' keeps comin' back. I like it, just not sure if there might be a better way to hammer home that the society thinks she .should. be doing something more important, and she's not.)

But all in all, is good. Feels appropriate to the character, for me.

PS: I love that you worked the 'early organ donation' line in that they actually use. XD

And the Super Mexicano. :) I've tried to work a little of the game into each of mine -- like the invulnerable purse strap, and Dreck completely shrugging off holds due to a break free, and the knockback distance of force bolt on a level 5 Skull. Fun stuff. :)

The challenge in writing this sort of thing, IMO, is to make it part of the setting without simply repeating the too-familiar canned content. Use it for recognizability, sure, but add your own touches.
