Daydreamer's Magic Show
Mar. 7th, 2006 11:51 pmMy memory of this was triggered by something earlier tonight, and I spent about half an hour searching for my hardcopy log, being frustrated, finally finding it, and transcribing it. So now I'm gonna post this little bit of history and online art.
About fifteen years ago, one of the early TinyMUCKs - Chaos - held a talent contest/beauty pageant. In a narrow vote, my character of the time ended up taking the Miss Chaos crown with the following performance.
Daydreamer walks firmly out to the center of the stage.
Daydreamer curtsies to the audience.

Daydreamer is a slender, pretty young woman with sparkling blue eyes and long brown hair. She wears a powder blue gown with short puffed sleeves and full skirt, white gloves, and silver slippers. Her hair is tied back with a white ribbon, with a half-veil tucked under it along with a peach-colored rose. She wears a sapphire pendant around her neck on a thin silver chain, with small matching earrings. A single pouch of black velvet hangs from the pale grey sash around her waist.
Daydreamer says, "Now then."
Daydreamer pulls up one leg and tucks it under her, then does the same with the other. She is now sitting cross-legged on air, about three feet above the floor.
Daydreamer reaches into one of her belt pouches.
Daydreamer pulls out a red crystal sphere, four inches in diameter.
Daydreamer reaches up and places the sphere in the air in front of her face. It does not fall, but begins to orbit around her head at a distance of about a foot.
Daydreamer repeats the process with an orb of orange crystal, then one of yellow, and so on. When she is done, six spheres, each a different color of the spectrum, revolve around her head in a hexagon.
Daydreamer reaches into one of her belt pouches.
Daydreamer pulls out a handful of magic dust.
Daydreamer sprinkles some of the glittering silver dust on each sphere as it passes by her face. When all have been thus anointed, she pauses for a moment, concentrating.
Daydreamer claps her hands. The crystal spheres shatter as one into small clouds of colorful shards ... which just as suddenly coalesce again into white doves!
Each dove has eyes, feet, and beak of the same color as the sphere that they sprang from, and the feathers of their wings and tails are shaded with matching hues of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or violet.
All six doves continue to circle around Daydreamer for a moment before she sends them away with a wave of her hand, to flit and swoop through the air.
Daydreamer watches as the doves fly about the stage and out over the audience, looping and doing tricks singly or in tandem.
Daydreamer smiles.
Daydreamer calls the doves back to her with a trilling whistle. They loop around each other as they circle, forming a double helix of white highlighted with all the colors of the rainbow.
The braided ring rises from around Daydreamer's head, tightening as it does. In a moment the six doves are flying toward the ceiling in a twisting column. Suddenly, at the top of their arc, they come together in a brilliant flash!
The flash fades to a steady, bright glow. A single spark of light hangs in the air near the ceiling, illuminating the upturned faces below. In the sudden silence, quiet music fills the room...
When you wish upon a star,
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you...
If your heart is in your dreams
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do.
Daydreamer holds out her cupped hands as the star descends, throwing off bright rays in all directions. It soon settles into her hands, lighting her face with its blue-white glow.
Daydreamer holds the fallen star for a moment. She smiles out at the unseen crowd.
Daydreamer says, "Make a wish."
Daydreamer opens her hands. Hundreds, thousands of tiny twinkling motes scatter from them, bursting out over the audience in a silent explosion. The lights swirl and dance in the air, then vanish one by one like a fading dream ... leaving only a soft rain of glittering stardust.
Daydreamer drops one leg to the floor, then the other, so that she is standing once more.
Daydreamer curtsies gracefully.
Daydreamer leaves the stage.
(Historical note: At the time, @emit was not available as a command. Every line that does not begin with Daydreamer was produced by a macro that temporarily changed the character's name (to "The_braided", for example) and then changed it back. The whole routine made heavy use of pre-written macros.)
