On "real Trek"
Feb. 8th, 2011 03:32 pmIn a forum thread on improving the "exploration" experience in STO, one of the Devs made a good post which (among other things) noted that most of what passed for it in the show(s) was really just an excuse to hold a mirror up to contemporary social issues. I was inspired to add:
"I suspect that while it might be very authentic, most players of this game do not want a randomly generated sermon from the Church of the Great Bird to educate them on how Drugs, Homelessness, Pollution, Careless Science, ____ism, and/or The Current War is Bad. Even if it does give merits and loot."
(Yeah, I know I'm posting a lot about it. Consider this the honeymoon. The bitter arguments, gradual estrangement and final separation will come in due time.)
