Well, the Soviets didn't believe they needed to; in fact, the inevitability of others' revolutions was part of that whole dialectical materialism thing right from the start. They just weren't very patient. :)

Marx said they were inevitable, but Lenin et al needed something to do. People who sit around in coffee houses and merely talk about politics and philosophy all day are just hipsters, and everyone hates those.

I think the Russians are full-on capitalists now in the pure sense of the communist word (luxury-importing, fashion driven, slaves to pop culture) and can't really be bothered all that much with foreign intervention or exporting revolutions (unless it happens to be close to home and easy to do, ala Georgia).
