Soy enfermo
Apr. 24th, 2011 12:56 pmWell, here's something new to report... :p
Yesterday, soon after arriving at the monthly LAN meet-up, I noticed I had a sore/scratchy throat. This got worse over the course of the day despite my attempts to soothe and hydrate it. By evening, not only was I feeling pretty bad but it had started raining, making my decision to leave the house in shirtsleeves even more foolish. I asked my brother if he could take me home to get my jacket, then return me to my locked-up bike at his place of work so that I could ride home as usual. He noted it would be simpler to just run me home once, after removing the bike's front wheel so that it could fit in the back of his car.
Colds and/or flus don't normally hit me this hard. I felt weak and trembly and the sore throat meant talking hurt, so I did it as little as possible. The issue of nausea came up (sorry) and I agreed that it'd be wise to make sure my short path between bed and bathroom was clear. Fortunately, when the tickle in my throat did turn in that direction, I was already in the bathroom, and it was simple enough to do what was demanded. I was (and am) so glad this didn't happen while I was trying to ride home that I called him up to thank him again.
I came back, took some more cold meds, laid down and tried to sleep - "try" being the operative word. I was now into the drooly stage, as my body tried in vain to relieve the dryness of my throat. I figured out a way to breathe to minimize this, but in my increasing delirium, couldn't quite manage to put it into practice. I slept fitfully for about eight hours, woke more fully, took more cold meds and was able to get another five hours of more restful sleep.
I really really hope that no one else caught this from me, especially my brother (and his family). I do feel better than I did last night, probably into the long tail of recovery - but even if this isn't Captain Tripps, it's still no fun at all.
EDIT: Well, I called him Sunday afternoon and he's still not symptomatic, so that's a good sign, as it were. Right now, my throat's back down to being merely a little sore, with some coughing and stuffed-up and feeling generally mildly achey. Nothing for it but to have more orange juice and some food and wait it out.
