Well, that was fun.
(Lost power here at the office for about 30? minutes. Back now, of course.)

EDIT: Seems that a heron was responsible. Oops.

When I lived in Waltham, there was a can transformer up the pole right in front of the house that a squirrel would cause to explode roughly every six months. It was always very frustrating watching the guys from Boston Edison, or whatever the hell the name of the power company wound up being (it got one of those swooshy late-'90s corporate renames), drive around the neighborhood hunting for the source of the outage. You just wanted to go outside, throw a rock at the truck to get it to stop, and say "Yo! Problem's up there! Like it always bloody is when this block goes out."

On the other hand, one time the flaming squirrel carcass actually fell on the roof of a car parked at the base of the pole and blistered the paint off the roof. Which is the kind of thing that's inherently funny if it's not your car. I think I'd actually enjoy filling out the insurance form.
