Oct. 31st, 2011 04:05 pmIn the "nothing really ever changes" department, the BBC site had an article over the weekend suggesting that the infamous Halloween 1938 panic over Orson Welles' broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" was not really so bad, and mostly made up exaggerated by newspaper accounts of isolated incidents, in part so that print editors could wag a chastising finger at the sensationalist, irresponsible upstart (which I'm sure had nothing at all to do with the worry that radio might soon put them all out of business).
