Yes, but it's important to remember that it would be entirely illogical to clean up and streamline the characters in the comics. After all, no one could possibly think that people who watched the cartoons/movies would ever be interested in _reading_ about the heroes of the cartoons/movies in their original medium. That would be MADNESS! No one who watches a movie or a TV show ever, ever picks up the books they were based on.

Better to leave the comics characters as bloated incomprehensible messes that appeal to an increasingly niche market with ever diminishing sales. It's the only logical thing to do.
