Many of you may know of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978), if only because it was the first appearance of Boba Fett, the badass who showed up in the second movie of the classic trilogy. (The less said about the rest of the variety hour, including Carrie Fisher's singing, the better. Suffice to say that George Lucas has said that he would like to hunt down and destroy every copy of this embarassing thing.)

What you probably do not know - for I myself was unaware of it until this evening - is that Count Dooku aka Darth Tyrannus, the badass who showed up in the second movie of the prequel trilogy, had his first appearance in the OTHER holiday special...

There's something undefinably hoax-like about that whole article. I can't quite put my finger on it, and I may be wrong, but it smells like a joke to me.

On the other hand, so did the Ewok TV-movie, and that actually happened. (Remember how the sound was simulcast in stereo on local FM Stereo stations where available? It pre-dated stereo TV broadcast technology. That wacky, innovative Lucasfilm!)

and yes, the proto Heavy Metal animation of Boba Fett.
I have used this silver bullet to silence many a Star Wars fanboy as they rushed to Lucas's aide.

Not only did my sister and I watch it in stunned amazement, but we had the French visiting that Christmas, and I remember them staring with opened mouths at it.

check out http://www.ohthehumanity.com review, the pictures are a riot.
They were the ones who really got me into the B-Movie sites, it's a shame they stopped updating.
IIRC, Stomptokyo also features the unbroadcast Holiday Special from '82, which was even worse, according to legend.

I don't think Gryph is doubting the existence of the ANH/1978 special (heck, I've got a copy of it in avi format), but this unaired 1982 thing featuring Christopher Lee in a very stupid hat.

my error, I thought they were both links to the '78 abomination. Lucas has a lot to answer for... sbloss knows she watched the special in '78, but she has no concious memory of it, she managed to block it out. Some people have all the luck.
