SELENE: "Michael, Michael - wherefore art thou Michael?
A rose on green marble would smell as sweet.
Deny thy pack and refuse thy tribe,
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I'll no longer be a Morpheus.*"

Okay, now you're scaring me.

Since when do you listen to S of M?

To be honest, I wasn't - at the time, anyway. It just seemed the most appropriate song to accompany my poke at Underworld for rippin' off the Bard (among others). He's a werewolf, she's a vampire (named for a moon-goddess, SUBtle)... so between the blatantly derivative slow-motion superhuman stuntwork, we get the equally derivative star-crossed-lovers plot.

(I think this may be the real sign that The Matrix has dethroned Star Wars in pop culture; just as we got a glut of bad sci-fi knockoffs around 1978-1980, now we're seeing a pack of movies that are nothing more than flimsy excuses to rip off that recognizable set of visual metaphors and style.)

And I was recently exposed to the song (see [livejournal.com profile] biomekanic's comment). However, I already had dim memories of hearing it before... I blame you and the old gang, of course. ;)

And it's not a bad song, though a bit repetitive - but I confess I'm not really listening to the lyrics as much as the music and the chorus.

Ahgahd. I just had this horrific vision, especially with the "star-crossed" lovers part...of Romeo & Juliet: Tooth and Claw: The Musical...

Yeah, but the average moviegoer thinks very little about the name Selene other than it's "exotic" (other than it sounds like "Selena Kyle," for those familiar with another franchise). And, well, Selene seems connotative with sex and sensuality AND "mystery" -- so, well, you get leech-chicks with furry fetishes, I guess.

This is sooo cool. I've actually infected YOU with the Goth virus. I never would have guessed.

Infected? Nah, not really. I just have another data point now with which to mock the black-coats-and-face-paint crowd. ;)

(Should I post the 'Gothy Charms' skit?)

I infected him yesterday on the way over to our house, the questions asked where:
"Who is this?"
"What is this?"
and
"Is this the extended remix?"
The answers:
Sisters of Mercy
This Corrosion
no, it's the regular version, try dancing to this thing...
