I was woken at 5:20 this morning by a tremendous crash. It wasn't the last. I've never been so close to a thunderstorm; it sounded like it was right overhead. flashTHAKOOM, followed by the pealing of car alarms.

The shelling lasted for about a half hour, accompanied by pouring rain. Toward the end, I noticed that the power had gone out. It was back by this morning, though. And I'm darn glad I took the opportunity when I first awoke to shut down my computer, which I'd left on for an all-night download.

say what you will about car alarms, they're good for some snarky comedy value when they're set off by inappropriate things. One day, when Zoner and I were working at Xylogics in Burlington, MA, not far from Hanscom AFB, we were crossing the parking lot when the USAF Thunderbirds went roaring by, low overhead, in afterburner, making an almighty racket and setting off car alarms throughout the office park.

I'm told that the Queen Mary sets off car alarms all over Long Beach when she blows her whistle, too. :)

Dontcha love thunderstorms? Though I'm afraid I'm starting to get a bit tired of them. After one a week for the past 2 months, and at least one a day for the past 4 days... all right overhead, sheet lightning, strike lightning, Rhys-cat hiding in closet, much like you've been describing, they are getting a bit old. Light shows are pretty, though. :)
