Only in the movies, folks. (Then again, she used to be on a show which asked us to believe that Alyson Hannigan was cute and geeky rather than incredibly hot.)
This is closely related to those makeover scenes where the actress takes off her ugly glasses, gets a new hairstyle, and is transformed into... well, a beautiful actress. Alchemists used to pull this scam back in the Middle Ages, by painting gold to look like lead and then miraculously washing away the base metal before their rapt audience.
