No-spoiler Azkaban comments
Jun. 5th, 2004 04:04 amThe new director was an interesting change. He needs to learn another transition besides fade/iris in and out, though. Some of that, admittedly, may be due to the number of times Harry passes out and comes to in this installment; I literally lost count. The changing seasons were done very nicely, accompanied by some great comic shots of the Whomping Willow.
The kids are growing up fast - not only the Holy Trinity, but Neville Longbottom's actor is shooting up like a weed and Draco's face has changed a lot. I tried very hard not to stare at Hermione's new bumps.
It took me, in hindsight, a surprisingly long time to recognize Thewlis (as Lupin) and Oldman (as Black). I picked out Emma Thompson right away, though, despite her goofy costume/character. The Dumbledore recast is noticeable, but not terribly.
My compliments to those responsible for Buckbeak: very well done. There were a couple of times when I was completely lost in the illusion. You'd hardly think that the chain Harry is tugging on is attached to a piece of CGI.
Stay for the credits, and watch the footprints. There are some cute bits.
